On The Road Again
Deming, New Mexico
Benson, Arizona
(November 2006)
From El Paso, we headed west at a very slow pace. We drove about 100 miles to Deming, NM. It is a park that is related to the mail handling company that we use. The cost was great, $13.00 per night. This is one item that we try to control. Space fees can run from $6.00 to over $50.00 per night and more. As you can see, this could run into big bucks if it was not watched closely. October 2006, we were on the road for only 12 days and our average was $25.90 per day. I am keeping track of everything we spend so that we will know just how much is spent in all categories. We set an average of $30.00 per day and have been under it so far.
Some of the parks have been quite meager and are very cheap, others have everything you could want. If we are on the road and plan to stay only overnight, then we don't need that much. If we plan to spend several days or more, we would like more from the park.

The parks in Grants, NM and Deming, NM are barebones parks and are just water, electric and sewer hookups.

Some parks are owned by individuals, such as the Co-Op in Bensen, AZ. While the owner is on the road, the space is rented to travelers. The owner receives 80% of the fee up to the yearly fees. There are some restrictions on what can be built on the space, but there is a lot of leeway. There is a clubhouse that has many features that are great. Julia took advantage to get some exercise and talk to a friend as well.
