On The Road Again
Hemet, CA
(March - April 2008)
We thought that it would be a good idea to take a road trip to
see the kids before Julia started her chemo therapy. Sue, a friend of ours who
is going through breast cancer too and lives in Kingman, AZ is on the way to
Flagstaff. We arrived a day early in Kingman and stopped by a What-A-Burger to
get something to eat. The Car Nutz car club were meeting

there and we saw some very interesting vehicles. The rust colored model A above looks like my first car. Mine was a 1929 and this is a 1930. This one looks much better though.

Dean and Sue just bought a large house. Dean showed me around and described all of the ideas he had for it. He should have them all completed by 2050.

We arrived in Flagstaff on Sunday afternoon and caught up with Chris, Angela and Sophia.

Sophia and Julia had a meal together. Sophia is becoming quite a cook.

Julia's has a 30% chance of loosing her hair temporarily due to the chemo. So, she wanted to have a picture showing how long it is now.

The day before Julia's 1st treatment, she got together with Peggy and Louise for prayer.

The day finally came and Julia was ready, sort of, to see what the chemo therapy is like. I didn't know very much about this. What it attacks ALL cells in the body. She will get a treatment every 3 weeks. It takes about 6 to 10 days for the body to be beaten down and her immune system will be at it's lowest. Healthy cells can repair themselves, but the cancer cells can't. As the 3rd week rolls around, the healthy cells are getting stronger. That is when the chemo is applied again through an IV. Julia does NOT like needles, but Rezena, the nurse, did a good job. After a couple hours, Julia was a bit tired, as you can see. Here is Dr. Sharma, the surgeon. He is a very special person.

On the way home as we were stopped at a light, a lady drove up behind us and used our back end to stop. I started to get out, but the light changed. Since we were in the turn lane, I figured that she would follow us and stop after the light. Well, she went straight through the light. That got to me and I raced up to the next corner and made a right turn.

I saw her a block over and she turned our way. I pulled in front of her at the intersection and stopped in front of her. Now that I think about it, she hit us one time and could do it again. She started to go around us, but Julia took a picture of her car and then she stopped. She said that she didn't hit us. I asked why she went straight instead of turn as she had planned. She said that the boy with her told her that he thought I would think she hit us. I gave her a lecture and then went back to our car to see the damage. It was so very minor that I let it go, but I told her to be more careful.

We have been looking for a new home. We have talked about a house, but don't know where we wanted it. We have talked about buying a piece of land and putting the RV on it, but where.. same problem. We went to Camping World, an RV dealership, and met Jeanna. Most of the time Julia and she talked about everything else other than RVs. If we do buy something, it will be from her.
